Prince Andrew launches Venom 3K-450T watched by Chris Tarmey, CEO of Hydrovision Group of Companies

Prince launches multi-purpose ROV

The high point of a recent visit by Prince Andrew to the Aberdeen factory of ROV supplier Hydrovision was the launch ceremony of the company's first cable maintenance ROV - the 3000 metre rated, 450 shaft horsepower Venom 3K-450T. This ROV was due for delivery to NSW in Germany as Underwater Contractor went to press.
"This Venom is capable of trenching to 1 metre depth in 100 kpa soils and is provided with both tracks and skids as well as stainless steel 1-metre and 1.5-metre swords," says Chris Tarmey, Hydrovision CEO.
"Part of the NSW requirement was to be able to remove the Venom core vehicle from its tracked trenching base within 12 hours so that it could be used for survey, construction and intervention tasks with a Hydrovision TMS system or as a free-swimming vehicle. During acceptance trials this procedure was achieved within 6 hours. This swift a change of roles is believed to be an industry first."
Prince Andrew visited Hydrovision in his capacity as a special representative for British industry. He toured the factory, met the company's employees, and gained an insight into the applications for commercial ROVs in the military, offshore oil and gas, and telecommunications industry.
