Two of the top procurement officials from the Russian Navy have visited diving equipment manufacturing and supply company, Divex, to learn about the latest diving technology.
Captain 2nd Rank
Sergei Biryukov
diving the Divex SLSRear Admiral Gennardy Verich and Captain 2nd Rank Sergei Biryukov were in the UK as guests of Divex and, as well as visiting the companys Aberdeen headquarters, the Russian visitors spent two days with the Royal Navy diving and medical hyperbaric experts in Portsmouth.
Speaking through an interpreter, Rear Admiral Verich described their visit as having been very useful in introducing himself and Captain Biryukov to new equipment and techniques which would be valuable in their particular spheres of rescue and research diving. We are already very familiar with the products of Divex, explained the Rear Admiral, 'but this has been a good opportunity to see the latest technology and safety equipment.
During their time at Divex Captain Biryukov tried out the SLS (secondary life support) diving system in the companys test tank. The SLS system provides a ten-minute emergency gas supply in the event of any problem with the primary supply at depths of up to 450 metres/1500 fsw.
The visit was arranged through Divexs Russian agents, Tetis, with the support of the DTI Overseas Trade Services HOTS (Hands on Training Scheme).
David Smith, Sales Director of Divex is confident their efforts will yield results. The military market is a very important one for us and, although we have already done business with the Russian Navy, we see further potential. I am sure Divex, and some of the other companies they have met, will see the benefits of this visit.
